Lord of Overstock
It's not quite a "'scuse me while I kiss this guy" kind of moment, but it's close. This song from Under the Bushes, Under the Stars, which seems to actually be about a "lord of overstock" in the retail sense, contains a line that I realize now I've always misheard. Robert Pollard sings about the lord of overstock, quoting himi as saying "don't be late for the superdeal, we'll save you a lot and take every cent you earn." The line that follows I've always heard as an emphatic "That would be tits!" as if Pollard's alter-ego in the song finds this to be a great thing. It's an expression along the lines of saying that a boss ride is real "cherry."
Turns out, he's singing "following tips, his overfed rats said 'trust in the king of overstock, invest in his wisdom and learn'." I like my mis-hearing better, frankly, and consider it a testament to Pollard's influence over me all these years that my well-trained subconscious came up with something better than the original.

After a relistening, I can see how you'd think it was "tits."
I wish it were "tits." This post made me realize that even though I put this on a lot of GBV mix tapes and I love this song, I've never listened that close to the lyrics.
Cheers,
-Robert
